Infertility Awareness: Recognizing National Infertility Awareness Week

In recognition of National Infertility Awareness Week (19th – 25th), Harmony Healthcare Long Island recognizes the very real emotional impact infertility can have on women and families. Infertility awareness is not just about understanding conception. It is also about feeling informed, supported, and cared for through every stage of the journey. HHLI’s programs help women access education, nutritional support, prenatal guidance, and community-based care that can support healthier pregnancies and stronger maternal health.
Why Infertility Awareness Matters
Infertility awareness helps women better understand their reproductive health, recognize when to seek medical guidance, and feel less alone in the process. It also helps break the stigma surrounding infertility, which many women experience quietly while carrying feelings of grief, loss, loneliness, and discouragement. For some, the emotional toll can also contribute to depression. Raising awareness of infertility creates space for both information and compassion.
Knowing When to Seek Support

Many women wonder when it may be time to ask for help, and that question alone can feel overwhelming. In general, it may be a good idea to speak with a provider after a year of trying to conceive, or after six months for women age 35 and older. Women also often ask whether age, health, and lifestyle matter. They can, which is why early guidance, preventive care, and support can be so important.
5 HHLI Programs That Support Women’s Health and Pregnancy Readiness
HHLI offers several programs and services that support women’s health, pregnancy readiness, maternal health, and family well-being:
1. Women’s Health Services
HHLI provides preventive care, obstetrics, office gynecology, mammography, prenatal care assistance, family planning, pregnancy testing, sexual health services, baby health education, and healthy lifestyle risk assessments. These services help women stay informed about their reproductive health and take early steps toward care and treatment.
2. Perinatal & Infant Community Health Collaborative (PICHC)
PICHC offers free support for women during pregnancy and postpartum. Community health workers help connect women to food, clothing, housing, insurance, transportation, doctors, parenting information, prenatal support, and education related to pregnancy and postpartum care. PICHC also helps address maternal health disparities by improving access to support and resources.
3. WIC Program
HHLI’s WIC program supports pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, as well as young children, with nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding guidance, menu planning, and help connecting to community services. This early support can help women build healthy habits and create a stronger foundation for a healthy pregnancy once they conceive.
4. Behavioral Health Services
Emotional wellness is an important part of fertility awareness. HHLI includes behavioral health among its specialty services, helping support women who may be coping with the emotional strain that can come with infertility, pregnancy concerns, or maternal stress.
5. Nutrition and Care Coordination Services
HHLI also offers nutrition and care coordination services that can help women better manage their health, access support, and navigate care before, during, and after pregnancy.
Standing with Women Through Every Step

Fertility awareness is about more than facts. It is about making sure women have access to care, support, and trusted information without shame or judgment. During National Infertility Awareness Week, HHLI stands with women who may be facing uncertainty, emotional stress, or challenges on the path to pregnancy.
Through the programs and services we offer, HHLI continues to support healthier pregnancies, stronger families, and more equitable maternal health in our community.
